Cowgirl Hoops Travel To No. 2 Texas

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball will take to the road Wednesday for an 11 a.m. game at No. 2 Texas for its road opener. The game will be televised on the Longhorn Network.
 
McNeese (1-0) is coming off a season opening 76-61 home win against Southern-New Orleans on Sunday and will play its first nationally ranked team this season and the first of two that are currently ranked in the Top 5 of the USA Today poll. The Cowgirls will travel to Baylor (Dec. 3). The Bears are ranked No. 3 in this week's poll.
 
Four Cowgirls scored in double figures in the win over SUNO with senior Mercedes Rogers coming off the bench to record her first double double of the season (13 points, 13 rebs.). Senior Keara Hudnall led McNeese in scoring with 17 points while Dede Sheppard scored 13 and sophomore Regan Bolton chipping in 12 points. Senior Jasmyn Carswell and redshirt freshman Bre'Ashlee Jones also grabbed double digit rebounds with 11 and 10, respectively.
 
Texas (1-0) is coming off a season opening 95-59 home win over Stetson on Sunday. Junior Lashann Higgs led the Longhorns with 18 points. Texas had four other players score in double figures with Brook McCarty scoring 14, Audrey-Ann Caron-Goudreau scored 10, Alecia Sutton had 13 and Jordan Hose pitched in with 11.
 
Following Wednesday's game, McNeese will return home for four straight game beginning with a 2 p.m. game against LSU-Alexandria on Sunday.
