Cowboys Ready to Face Lions in Los Angeles on Sunday

LAKE CHARLES – Rounding out its trip in the Golden State, the McNeese men's basketball team will face Loyola Marymount for the first time in program history on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 5:00PM (CT).

Transfer Quattarius Wilson led the Cowboys with 15 points in the 83-52 loss at San Diego State on Friday (Nov.17). McNeese struggled to keep up with San Diego State and it showed in its poor shooting efficiency.

" We did not shoot the ball very well, and against a team like San Diego State, in an arena as large and loud as theirs, you have to shoot the ball better than we did" head coach Dave Simmons said.

"One of our newest additions, Quatarrius Wilson did very well, but our guards have to give us a balance on the perimeter and we did not get that last night."

Loyola Marymount will be hosting McNeese coming off a home-opening win on Wednesday (Nov.15). The Lions are coming off back-to-back games with four players surpassing the 10-point plateau, with transfer guard James Batemon leading the team with his 17.5 points per game.

Loyola Marymount, like San Diego St, will have the advantage over McNeese when comparing average team size. Mattias Markusson of LMU stands at 7'3", but the Stockholm native started in only one of 25 games played last year and averaged just over two points per game last season.

The series between McNeese and Loyola Marymount is new, with the first meeting between the teams on Sunday.

McNeese will be en route to Los Angeles at 1-1, looking to turn its California trip around.

"We are heading to LMU with the intentions of finishing the weekend 1-1, on trips like this, you never want to go home 0-2, but to do that we've got to come out tomorrow more energy and efficiency" Simmons said.

The Cowboys will only have seven non-conference match-ups before facing Incarnate Word on December 28th to begin Southland Conference play.

"We are still in the process of improving our skills and working on our transitions, but that's what these types of trips are for" Simmons said.

Sunday will be LMU's "Canned Food Drive" game. We're collecting canned goods and other non-perishable food items to donate to families in the area in advance of Thanksgiving. Fans who donate receive a discount on their tickets.
