McNeese Mens Basketball Hosts Southern-New Orleans Mid-Day Saturday

LAKE CHARLES – The Cowboys are back in action post-Turkey Day, as they host for the third time this season, when they compete against Southern University – New Orleans. Tip-off on Saturday (Nov.24) is slated for 3:00 p.m. at Burton Coliseum.

McNeese currently sit at 1-3 on the season, with its only win coming against Ecclesia College earlier this month. The Cowboys most recently hosted Champion Christian College for an exhibition match, defeating the Tigers 85-48.

In the victory, senior LaBarrius Hill lead the offensive attack with 12 points, while transfer Quatarrius Wilson pulled down a team leading 11 rebounds. Wilson has lead the Cowboys in boards in four of their five contests this season.

"The only reason we didn't score 100 points is because of the 25 turnovers we gave up to a team that didn't even press" said head coach Dave Simmons.

"It was good to get a win after our last loss to Loyola Marymount, but we have got to improve our defensive skills: guarding the ball, preventing offensive rebounds."

SUNO (1-4) will be traveling to Burton after falling to Mississippi College 107-89 on the road. SUNO's top performer, George Brock will be bringing the heat on Saturday after his 47-point performance at MC. Brock has been responsible for 124 of SUNO's points this season.

The Knights played the University of Southern Mississippi earlier this month, losing 79-69. Mid-way through the second-half, the Knights were trailing by as much as 27 points, but rallied in the final minutes to cut the Golden Eagles win to only 10.

"SUNO is going to be a tough team, they sent USM to the line 45 times in their game. We have to make sure we're getting rest and recuperating quickly to avoid the little mistakes we're making" Simmons said.

The Cowboys will be on the road for the next three weeks following Saturday's game, visiting UL-Lafayette (Nov.28), North Texas (Dec.9), North Carolina Central (Dec.14), and Pittsburgh (Dec.16).
