LAKE CHARLES—McNeese volleyball will conclude its regular this weekend on the road with a 6 p.m. match at Central Arkansas Thursday before concluding the regular season with a 1 p.m. match at Northwestern State Saturday.
McNeese (18-11, 9-5 SLC) will enter the weekend tied for fifth place and will be playing to better their seeding in next week's Southland Conference Tournament. The top eight teams will make up the tournament field. The Cowgirls have won their last four matches and six out of their last seven. McNeese picked up a thrilling 3-2 home win over UCA on Oct. 14 but dropped a five setter to the Demons on Oct. 12.
Central Arkansas (23-3, 12-2 SLC) is currently in second place in the league, one half match behind conference leader Stephen F. Austin. The Bears have won six straight. Their last loss was to the Cowgirls.
Northwestern State is in seventh place with a 13-16 overall record and 8-6 in the SLC. The Lady Demons have lost their last three matches to Houston Baptist, Central Arkansas and Abilene Christian.
McNeese continues to be led by sophomore Shanna Spree but in the last two matches, several Cowgirls have stepped up to help on both offense and defense. Spree leads the team and ranks fifth in the conference with a .327 hitting percent. She also leads the Cowgirls with 102 blocks, 35 service aces and is second on the team with 272 kills.
Sophomore Keegan Nelms leads the team with 273 kills and is second with 337 digs. Senior Adison Giambrone continues to lead the squad with 574 assists while sophomore Angela McGownd has a league best 565 digs for an average of 5.09 per set.
