LAKE CHARLES - A little snow in Lake Charles won't stop the Cowboys; the McNeese men's basketball team is headed to Denton to face the University of North Texas on Saturday at 5 p.m. at The Super Pit.
Coming off a heartbreaking 89-78 road loss at ULL, the Cowboys will be looking for their first road win of the season.
The defeat at ULL was tough, after rallying back from a 20-point deficit three times, McNeese fell just short of a comeback in the Cajundome.
Leading the effort was senior Stephen Ugochukwu, who earned his first double-double of the season with 20 points and 12 boards.
Kalob Ledoux, Jarren Greenwood, and Jacob Ledoux all scored ten or more points in the contest. After six games, the Cowboys have had four or more players with double-digit scoring in every game but two.
The Mean Green (5-5) will be hosting the Cowboys after a close 79-76 overtime win over Indiana State at home.
North Texas trailed by seven at the half, but returned from the locker room to outscore Indiana State 45-38 in the second half- sending the game into overtime.
UNT's Roosevelt Smart would lead the team to its victory with a 22-point performance, hitting nine of ten from the free throw line.
McNeese has seen improvement on the court this year, bringing a combination of tempo and energy. With the new Cowboy culture, comes the much needed improvement on the glass.
Compared to the 2016-17 season, McNeese is pulling down nine more rebounds per game- good for third best year-to-year improvement in the nation.
The Cowboys lead the Southland Conference in rebounds, and sit at 7th amongst Division I schools for offensive rebounds.
Transfer Quatarrius Wilson is the man behind the rebounds, averaging 8.8 rebounds per game.
Sophomore siblings Kalob and Jacob Ledoux both contribute to the Cowboys fundamental success this season. Kalob Ledoux leads McNeese in scoring, averaging 14.2 points per game. His brother Jacob Ledoux not only leads the squad in steals (15), but also ranks 15th in the nation for steals per game.
The Cowboys will be meeting with UNT for the 37th time. The series dates back to 1982 with the most recent match-up coming in 1996, the last year North Texas competed as a Southland Conference member.
UNT claimed the last contest, winning 67-65 at home in Denton. The Mean Green control the series 19-17.
Saturday's game will be streamed on C-USA.TV.
