LAKE CHARLES--  McNeese women's basketball will look to clinch a Southland Conference Tournament spot Saturday when they travel to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for an 11:30 a.m. game. McNeese (12-14, 7-8 SLC) enters the game in fifth place in the standings, one and a half games behind fourth place New Orleans with three games remaining in the regular season.
 
Following Saturday's game, McNeese has a road game at Sam Houston State next Thursday before closing out the regular season at home against Lamar on March 4.
 
Seniors Victoria Rachal and Amber Donnes have asserted themselves in leadership roles in the last few weeks and both are leading the team in respective statistical categories.
 
Both are the only Cowgirls averaging in double figures with Rachal leading the team with 11.1 ppg. and Donnes is averaging 10.3 ppg. Rachal is second on the team with an 84.6 free throw percent and 2.3 assists. Donnes leads McNeese with 44 three-pointers made and 1.8 steals. She is shooting 34.1 percent from behind the arc.
 
Junior Frederica Haywood has been a force on the boards throughout the season and continues to rack up rebounds. Haywood ranks ninth in the nation in offensive rebounds and is averaging 10.2 per game and has grabbed 10 or more in seven of the last eight games. She leads the team with a 44.6 field goal percent and is averaging 8.0 ppg.
 
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (9-17, 5-10 SLC) will be playing to keep their tournament hopes alive. The Islanders have lost five of their last six games and enter Saturday's game on a three game losing streak.
 
Brittany Mbamalu leads the Islanders in scoring with 9.5 ppg. and Camesha Davis has a team best 5.9 rpg.
