Cowboys visit Bearkats on Thursday night

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – McNeese enters its final week of the season with a road game at Sam Houston State on Thursday night as it looks to end the 2016-17 slate on a high note.

Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 and the game will air live on ESPN3 as well as the McNeese Radio Network (Cajun Radio 1470/1290 AM and CajunRadio.com).

The Cowboys (7-20, 4-12) have dropped six straight games, the latest an 81-70 setback at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi that officially eliminated them from Southland Conference Tournament contention.

Sam Houston State (18-11, 9-7) is in a similar situation, having dropped three straight games and five out of its last seven in the month of February after posting a perfect 7-0 mark in January.

SHSU defeated the Cowboys back on Jan. 5, 74-67, after McNeese opened up the conference season with back-to-back wins over Northwestern State and Stephen F. Austin. Since then, McNeese has won just two out of its next 12 games but is determined to end the season on a high note.

"We're never going to quit," said head coach Dave Simmons. "I think we've been battling hard in all of our games and have been in most of them til the end."

The Cowboys will get the services of Lance Potier back (6.5 ppg, 6.3 rpg) after he missed the last two games due to concussion protocol. Fellow senior Jamaya Burr (11.4 ppg) is also expected to be back in the starting lineup after coming off the bench the last three games.

Freshman Kalob Ledoux (11.6 ppg) tops the team in scoring and has been the go-to guy for the Cowboys lately, having led the team in scoring in three straight games while posting back-to-back 20-point outings.

Ledoux is looking to become the first freshman since Joe Dumars (1981-82) to lead the team in scoring for the season.

Expected to join the trio in the lineup will be James Harvey (8.9 ppg) and Stephen Ugochukwu (10.5 ppg, 8.1 rpg).

McNeese will wrap up the season on Saturday with a home game against Lamar at 3 p.m.
