CONWAY, Ark. – It was the hot bat of
Jacob Stracner that lifted the McNeese baseball team to a Southland Conference opener victory Friday evening as the Cowboys propelled over Central Arkansas, 6-3, in 11 innings.
Stracner came off the bench in the seventh frame as a pinch hitter but made an immediate impact with a hit in the 10
th frame. However, the final inning would be his most important at-bat as the Moss Bluff, La. native sent a single into right center allowing two runs to score and give the Pokes the lead in the 11
th. Another run scored off of a fielding error would secure the McNeese victory in its first league outing of the season.
The victory pushed McNeese to its sixth straight win of the season and a 10-4 overall mark. The Pokes begin their league slate 1-0 for the first time since the 2015 season. UCA dropped to 6-9 on the year and 0-1 in conference action.

Shane Selman.
Provenzano and Stracner were the only Cowboys to record multiple hits on the evening. Provenzano has now hit safely in 10 consecutive games while upping his multiple hit and RBI counts to four. Stracner and Selman were responsible for four of the Cowboys' six runs on the night.
The Bears used three runs across the next couple of innings to tie things up with the Cowboys. McNeese entered extra frames for the first time since the Southland Conference Tournament in 2016 when the Pokes topped New Orleans in 13 innings.
McNeese has now won 11 games in extra innings under head coach
Justin Hill. The Pokes have now won three of the last five against Central Arkansas in the all-time series.
