LAKE CHARLES- McNeese softball defeated Central Arkansas 7-3 here Saturday to complete its Southland Conference sweep over the Bears. McNeese picked up an 8-0 (6 inning) and 6-2 doubleheader win over the Bears on Friday night.

McNeese 16-10, 3-0 SLC) scored runs in the first four innings and took a 2-0 lead in the opening frame on a RBI by
Tori Yanitor and a UCA wild pitch.

UCA (7-17, 0-3 SLC) tied the game with two runs in the second via a Cowgirl error that allowed both runs to score.

The game didn't stay tied for long after
Taylor Schmidt hit a solo home run, her fourth long ball of the season that gave McNeese a 3-2 lead.

McNeese added three more runs in the third when Yanitor and
Justyce McClain opened the inning with back-to-back singles.
Aubree Turbeville cleared the bases with her first career triple down the right field line that scored both Yanitor and Justyce for a 5-2 lead. Turbeville would eventually score while Schmidt was in a run down between first and second for a 6-2 lead.

The final run of the game for the Cowgirls came in the fourth inning when
Hailey Drew sent the first pitch she saw over the scoreboard for her second home run of the season and a 7-2 McNeese lead.

After
Baylee Corbello (3-2) did her job in the circle after giving up two unearned runs on four hits for the previous six innings, junior
Jolie Trahan replaced Corbello in the circle for the final three outs.   Â

Trahan gave up a solo home run to UCA's pinch hitter Randi Wallace before getting two pop outs and a ground out to end the game for the 7-3 win.

McNeese ended the game with seven hits, two coming from Yanitor. Two of the Cowgirls hits were home runs bringing the total to 24 on the season.

McNeese will have a week off and will return to the diamond next weekend for a Southland Conference series against Sam Houston State beginning at 6 p.m. Friday night.Â
