Cowgirls Conclude Tournament Play With 7-2 Loss To Oregon State

SAN DIEGO, Calif.--  McNeese softball concluded action Saturday at the San Diego Classic I with a 7-2 loss to Oregon State to post a 4-1 tournament record. McNeese picked up its wins against BYU, San Diego State, San Jose State and UC Davis.

McNeese (12-9) gave up an early run in the first to fall behind before scoring two runs in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead over Oregon State (11-5).

Alexandria Saldivar led the inning off with a walk then Baylee Corbello singled to break up the no-hitter. Corbello advanced to second on an error while pinch runner Shelbi Strickland crossed the plate to tie the game. After Corbello stole third, a double to left by Carleigh Chaumont brought Corbello home for the 2-1 lead.

The Cowgirl lead didn't hold for long as the Beavers scored four runs on five hits in the sixth to take a 5-2 lead. After McNeese went down in order in the bottom of the sixth, Oregon State added two more runs in the top of the seventh for a 7-2 lead and the eventual win.
