CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas- McNeese softball was aggressive at the plate and on the base paths here Friday afternoon at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, combining for 15 hits and 17 stolen bases in its 7-1, 4-0 Southland Conference doubleheader win.

Justyce McClain tied a McNeese single game record with four stolen bases in the opening game then stole another in the nightcap for her fifth of the day.

McNeese (27-13, 14-1 SLC) opened the doubleheader by scoring single runs in the second and third to take a 2-0 lead on a sacrifice fly in the first inning by
Lauren Brown before

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (6-25, 1-10 SLC), cut the Cowgirl lead in half with a run in the third. McNeese blew the game open with five runs on four hits and two Islander errors in the sixth to take a 7-1 lead.

Hailey Drew gave McNeese a 6-1 lead by scoring on a throw down to second base and
Justyce McClain scored the final run on anther Islander error.

McNeese picked up 10 hits in the game with two apiece coming from Drew and
Carleigh Chaumont. Chaumont and Yanitor picked up the only extra base hits in the game with one double apiece. The Cowgirls picked up 11 stolen bases in the game with McClain stealing a single game school record with four stolen bases.

Rachel Smith picked up the complete game victory to improve to 10-5 on the year. Smith allowed six hits, four strikeouts and didn't allow a walk. Â

The Cowgirls continued to stay aggressive on the bases in the nightcap by stealing six more bases.

McNeese picked up its first run of game 2 in the second inning when Corbello scored on a throw down to second base trying to get Chaumont attempting to steal.
Erika Piancastelli's RBI single in the third inning scored Drew from second base for a 2-0 lead.

McNeese increased its lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning on a two RBI single through the right side by McClain.

The Cowgirls picked up five hits in the nightcap with Drew and McClain picking up two each. McClain knocked in two of the four runs and stole one base, giving her five stolen bases on the day.

Alexsandra Flores threw a two-hit complete game shutout to improve to 9-3 overall. The rookie struck out five and gave up only two walks.

The series will conclude with a single game at 12 p.m. Saturday. Â
