Volleyball Hosts Houston Baptist Thursday

LAKE CHARLES—Coming off its Southland Conference opening win over Nicholls on Tuesday, McNeese volleyball will look to remain undefeated at home as well as in league play when the Cowgirls host Houston Baptist Thursday night in a 7 p.m. match. Admission is free to all home matches, courtesy the Lake Charles American Press. The match will be streamed live on mcneesesports.com.
 
McNeese (9-6, 1-0 SLC) picked up a straight set (25-16, 25-17, 25-12) win over the Colonels to open conference play. Sophomore Shanna Spree leads the team with 151 kills for an average of 2.75 per set while Keegan Nelms is averaging 2.31 per set. Spree also leads the team with 22 service aces and is second in blocks with 48. Jenny D'Alessandro has a team high 51 blocks while Angela McGownd leads the defense with 321 digs for an average of 5.53 per set. Adison Giambrone has dished out 294 assists (5.07 aps) and Angela Aguilera has 247 on the year for an average of 4.84.
 
Houston Baptist (8-4, 0-0 SLC) will begin their conference schedule with three straight road matches beginning with Thursday's match against the Cowgirls.
 
The Huskies are coming off a 1-2 record at the UT-Arlington Invitational last weekend where they fell to UC-Davis and Arizona State. Their win was in a five-set match against UT-Arlington.
