Alexandra Aguilera moved into seventh place in McNeese career assists here Thursday night with 18 in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-19, 25-23) Southland Conference loss to Houston Baptist. The loss drops McNeese to 9-7 overall and 1-1 in league play while the Huskies improved to 9-4 on the season and 1-0 in the SLC.
The native of Pearland, Texas needed only 10 to move into seventh place with 1,461 but now has 1,468 to her name.
Aguilera was one of two Cowgirls to dish out over 10 assists along with senior
Adison Giambrone who dished out 15.
Sophomore Katelyn Elliot led the Cowgirls with 10 kills and sophomore
Angela McGownd led all players with 16 digs.
"Credit to HBU-they played and outstanding match from point one," said head coach
Ashleigh Fitzgerald. "They attacked incredibly well behind their setter and even when they passed poorly, they took monster swings. That was a great team we played tonight and they gave us a lot to watch on tape and a lot to get better at."
The Cowgirls trailed in the early part of all three sets and had a chance to push the match to a fourth set but couldn't scored the final two points with the third set tied at 23 all.
An ace by HBU's Abby Gargus gave the Huskies a 24-23 lead before McNeese called a timeout. Following the timeout, Bailey Banks recorded her 14
th kill of the night to end the match with a 25-23 HBU third set win.
Richey led all players with a match high 15 kills and a .684 hitting percent. The taller HBU squad picked up 12 blocks on the night and were led by three apiece from Blair Gillard and Kayla Davenport.
McNeese will have the weekend off and will return to the court next Tuesday, Sept. 26 when they will travel to Abilene, Texas to take on Abilene Christian.
