LAKE CHARLES – The Cowgirls will be returning to Cowgirl Field for their second home stand of the weekend when they host the Bearkats of Sam Houston State on Sunday at 1PM.

McNeese is hosting Sam Houston after dropping a conference match-up to Stephen F Austin on Friday night, falling 2-0. The loss sets them at 3-1 as they continue in conference play.

Sam Houston will be traveling to Lake Charles following two losses to conference foes, losing 3-1 at Lamar on Friday (September 29) and 1-0 at home against Houston Baptist the previous Sunday (September 24). The Bearkats are 0-4 on the road this season and 1-3 in the Southland Conference.

The series leans in favor of Sam Houston (6-9), but the Cowgirls claimed their contest last season 1-0 in a Hunstville thriller. Senior, Gabi D'Alesandro was able to find the bottom left corner of the net during a penalty kick just outside the box in the 44^th minute of play to give the Cowgirls the lead, which they would defend for the remaining 46 minutes.

Sam Houston's goalkeeper, sophomore Anna Kaiser, is currently ranked second in the conference, playing four games and racking up 29 saves. She is also second in the SLC for save percentage, right behind Cowgirl goalie, Emma Roccaforte.

Despite allowing three goals in their three previous games, the Cowgirls still maintain the least amount of goals allowed average in the Southland, the only remaining team in the conference with an average less than one.

Senior Savannah LaRicci leads all Cowgirls in multiple offensive categories as well as ranking amongst the top three players in the conference in shots, points, and goals.

Sunday's game is set to begin at 1:00PM, with free admission courtesy of the American Press. Kids Day will be celebrated with the signing of schedule posters after the match and pictures with Rowdy!
