Cowgirls Go for History Against HBU

LAKE CHARLES- The McNeese Cowgirls soccer squad, who clinched a spot in the Southland Conference postseason tournament with its 3-1 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday night while matching a school record with its 12th victory, will look to set a new regular season win record Sunday afternoon when it hosts Houston Baptist.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. at Cowgirl Field.

The Cowgirls (12-5-1, 6-2-1 SLC), who are 5-1 in their last six matches against Texas A&M- Corpus Christi, Incarnate Word, Abilene Christian, Nicholls, and Sam Houston State with their only loss coming against Central Arkansas who is sitting atop the conference standings. McNeese has won three straight games.

In those six games, the Cowgirls outscored their opponents 9-3 with three shutouts.

Houston Baptist (8-7-1, 6-2-1 SLC) is coming off a 2-0 loss to Lamar on Friday night, its second straight loss.

This will be the 11th match between the two programs with the Huskies having won four of the last five and lead the all-time series 5-3-2.

The Cowgirls last win against the Huskies came in the 2016 regular season, winning 2-1 at Cowgirl Field.

McNeese and HBU are currently tied for third in the conference standings with 19 points and just one point back from Lamar who is in second place and five points behind the first place Bears.
The Cowgirls have already clinched a spot in the Southland Conference Tournament but are now in a battle for seed positioning.
