LAKE CHARLES—McNeese volleyball will attempt to do something no conference school has been able to do all season and that is to hand Stephen F. Austin (23-2, 10-0 SLC) its first conference loss of the season when the two team clash at 6:30 p.m. Thursday night at Memorial Gym. Live streaming and live stats will be available with links located on mcneesesports.com.
Not only is SFA unbeaten in conference action, but the Ladyjacks are on a 20-match winning streak and are one of three teams in Division 1 riding a winning streak of 20 or more matches. Fifth ranked Pittsburgh has won 22 in a row while SFA and top-ranked BYU are tied for the nation's second-longest active winning streak.
Another obstacle for the Cowgirls to overcome is the fact that SFA has not lost a true road match this season. The only Ladyjacks losses came against Princeton and Northwestern earlier in the year at the Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament.
McNeese (7-18, 5-5 SLC) enters the match in a fifth place tie in the SLC standings with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the team the Cowgirls fell in straight sets in its most recent match last Saturday. The Cowgirls will also look to defend their home court, entering the match with a 4-1 home record. McNeese's lone home loss was to Incarnate Word last Tuesday.
Keegan Nelms continues to lead McNeese with 220 kills while
Paige Havel leads the team with 103 blocks and a .268 hitting percent.
