LAKE CHARLES- The McNeese Cowgirl soccer squad defeated Lamar 1-0 Friday night at Cowgirl Field, setting a new school record with its 13th win of the season after Nola Prickett scored the game-winning goal in the 71st minute.

With the win, the Cowgirls end the regular season 13-6-1 overall, 7-3-1 in conference, while Lamar fell to 7-2-2 in conference and 11-5-2 overall.

In the first half, the Cowgirls outshot the Cardinals 7-5 and had the slight edge in shots-on-goal 5-4.

The goalkeeper for both teams made fantastic saves to keep the match 0-0 to end the half. 

In the second half, McNeese came out aggressive on offense earning several shots-on-goal.

In the 69th minute, Cowgirl goalkeeper Emma Roccaforte kept the game tied 0-0 after making a diving save on a penalty kick earned by Lamar after a hand ball was called on McNeese in the box.

McNeese took the lead in the 71st minute after Prickett found the back of the net for a goal, her fourth on the year.

On the goal, Havana Johnson and Anna Watson earned their third and sixth assists on the year.

"Beating Lamar is always big, they are a really good team. Emma made a huge save to keep us in the game. I thought that we played really well tonight," said head coach Drew Fitzgerald. "Getting that 13th win is huge for the program and all the credit should go to these girls. I'm really proud of them."

Coming into the match, Lamar sat in second place in the league standings and McNeese in fourth.

With the win, McNeese cements its spot as the No. 4 seed while the Cardinals fall to the three seed heading into the conference tournament.

The Southland Conference tournament will begin next Wednesday in Beaumont.
