LAKE CHARLES – McNeese will go for its first win of the season on Tuesday night when the Cowboys continue their three-game home stand with a match-up against the University of Mobile.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6:30 at the H&HP Complex. Doors will open at 5:30.
McNeese (0-3) is coming off a one-point, 79-78 loss to Loyola of New Orleans in the home opener last Friday.
In that game, the Cowboys had five players score in double-figures, led by
Kevin Hunt's 19 points while
James Harvey added 18. Two players also recorded double-doubles –
Malik Hines with 11 points and 10 rebounds while
Roydell Brown added 10 points and 13 boards for his second double-double through the first three games.
Brown's 11.3 rebounding average per game ranks him No. 1 in the Southland Conference and 16
th nationally.
"We're looking to continue to progress and play better," said first-year head coach
Heath Schroyer. "We need to settle in and learn how to play at home. It's a work in progress."
A total of 10 new faces are on this year's squad along with an entire new coaching staff, so it'll take some time for the Cowboys to find the right fits and start gelling as a unit.
"The biggest thing is growth and how do we approach the game," said Schroyer. "We want to see progress and growth. We're all new to each other so we're working on seeing who plays well together and having the right fit."
McNeese opened up its new home last Friday night and after Tuesday night's game, will host Mississippi College Friday night before hitting the road for three straight.
"We have to play well at home," said Schroyer. "It was an unbelievable atmosphere out there on Friday night."
Mobile will enter the game with a 2-1 record. The Rams dropped a 78-74 exhibition game to Southern to open the season. Tuesday's game will also be considered an exhibition for the Rams.
