LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball begins a three-game road schedule with a 2 p.m. game at Rice Sunday afternoon. It's the first of three straight road contest that will have the Cowgirls traveling to Alabama-Birmingham on Dec. 8 and at LSU on Dec. 11 before returning home on Dec. 17 to host Southern-New Orleans.
The game will stream live, and a radio broadcast will be carried on Cajun Radio (1470 and 1290 AM) and on CajunRadio.com. All links can be found on mcneesesports.com.
It's the 11
th overall meeting between the two teams with Rice (4-2) holding a 6-4 edge over McNeese. Rice has won the last two meetings including a 61-53 win over McNeese in Lake Charles during the 2015-16 season. The Owls also picked up a 57-55 win in Houston during the 2014-15 season. The last Cowgirls victory over the Owls came during the 2013-14 season when McNeese won 65-54 in Lake Charles.
McNeese (0-5) will look to bounce back from a 68-60 home loss to LSUA on Nov. 21 that saw the Cowgirls let the lead slip away in the final minutes of the game.
Freshmen
Callie Maddox and
Divine Tanks lead the Cowgirls in scoring and rebounding. Maddox is averaging 14.0 ppg. and Tanks is averaging 11.4 rpg. Maddox has scored in double figures in four of the five games and is coming off a 15-point game against LSUA
Tanks is coming off her second double double of the season against LSUA with 11 points and 17 rebounds.
Junior
Sky Jasper is also coming off her first double double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Jasper is second on the team in scoring with 7.4 ppg.
Rice enters the contest following a 66-49 win over Georgia State on Friday. This will be the third and final home game in a three-game home stand for Rice.
The Owls are led by Erica Ogwumike, the sister of former Stanford and current WBNA standouts Nneka and Chiney. Erica is averaging a double double with 16.2 ppg. and 11.6 rpg.
