DURHAM, N.C. – McNeese will attempt to capture its first win on the road on Saturday afternoon when it visits North Carolina Central in the first of two meetings this season.
Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. Central Time. North Carolina Central, who played in last year's NCAA Tournament, will make a return trip to Lake Charles on Dec. 13.
The Cowboys (2-4) are coming off a disappointing 91-59 loss at SMU on Thursday night in a game where they had a tough time of rebounding the ball (23 total and seven offensive) as well as hitting shots from the perimeter against a zone defense.
McNeese connected on just 4 of 17 from long range for the game and managed just 28 points in the paint after averaging 44 points between the blocks the previous three games.
Three Cowboys are averaging double-figures in scoring –
Malik Hines and
James Harvey with an 11.8 average and
Roydell Brown at 10.2 to go along with a team-leading 9.3 rebounds per game.
NCC (3-5) has won two straight games after starting off the season 1-5, beating Christendom College 110-51 on Wednesday night in its last outing. Prior to that, the Eagles defeated Southern by a score of 83-71. They also have a 77-63 loss to Southland Conference member Nicholls on Nov. 23.
The Eagles, who are a member of the MEAC, are led in scoring by Randy Miller's 17.8 points while Raasean Davis is pulling down 9.1 rebounds to go along with 13.9 points per game.
"They're a very talented team who played in the NCAA Tournament last season," said McNeese coach
Heath Schroyer.
Saturday's game will be the third meeting in the series with NCC holding a 2-0 advantage. The Eagles posted a 77-71 win over the Cowboys in Durham last season.
