Men's Basketball To Host Top Seeded Nicholls on Wednesday

LAKE CHARLES – With only four games remaining on the regular season schedule, the McNeese men's basketball team is on the hunt for their ticket to Katy. For the Cowboys, that train runs through Nicholls.  The Cowboys and Colonels will meet up for the 91st time in the series on Wednesday night at Buron Coliseum, tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.

The Cowboys are looking to bounce back from a tough 90-74 loss on the road against New Orleans on Saturday. The 16-point deficit was its biggest loss in confrence play up to this point in the season.

Sophomore guard Kalob Ledoux did not play on Saturday due to some continuing foot issues that needed to be addressed.

Ledoux leads the team, averaging 15.3 points per game. Against conference opponents, Ledoux is putting back 18.3 points per game.

It can be said that Ledoux's presence is important if the Cowboys intend to maintain their offensive power.

Junior Qutarrius Wilson did his part in picking up the slack by recording his twelth double-double of the season. Wilson is the only player in the Southland conference currently averaging a double-double through all games.

McNeese and Nicholls played a back and forth game in January, with the Cowboys dropping the contest 85-80 after holding a 43-41 lead at the half.

Five Cowboys left the court with double-digit scores in their column, including Wilson(13), Kalob Ledoux (17), James harvey (14), Jacob ledoux (10), and Stephen Ugochukwu (15).

Nicholls (18-9, 12-2) is riding into Lake Charles on cloud nine, sitting in the number one spot in the SLC after being ranked 10th in the preseason polls.

The Colonels are looking for their sixth straight win, after most recently defeating tournament-contenders Central Arakansas 87-83 on the road and Sam Houston State 73-72 at home.

Saturday's game will be the 91st meeting in the all-time series with McNeese holding an 51-39 lead. McNeese leads the all-time series by a 12 game margin but Nicholls has won 7 of the last 10 meetings.

Cowboys' head coach Dave Simmons is 9-15 against the Colonels and has won just 3 times in 12 games at Nicholls. The home team has won the last seven contests. McNeese's last win in Stopher Gym came on Jan. 7, 2013; the Colonels have won four straight at home against the Cowboys.
