McNeese Cowboys Host Huskies for Mid-Day Game on Saturday

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese (9-16, 6-9) is back in Burton on Saturday, hosting Houston Baptist (6-22, 2-13) with a 3:30 p.m. tip-off time.

McNeese is trying to avoid its third straight loss on Saturday, looking to bounce back after a devastating 96-79 loss against Nicholls at home on Wednesday.

Nicholls attempted nearly 20 more shots than McNeese, although the Cowboys did shoot 45% from the field, 45% from the arc, and 79% from the free-throw line, meaning the Cowboys simply fell because of lack of attempts. McNeese committed 13 turnovers and only earned 10 assists, while Nicholls had only nine miscues and a whopping 22 assists.

Houston Baptist is coming off an 87-73 home loss against Lamar. The Huskies got a career-high 16 points from junior Edward Hardt along with seven rebounds in their loss to Lamar on Wednesday. Freshman David Caraher led the team with 17 points and nine rebounds while Oliver Lynch-Daniels added nine points and six rebounds off the bench and Braxton Bonds finished with nine points, six assists and five rebounds

McNeese is led by sophomore Kalob Ledoux and juniors Jarren Greenwood and Quatarrius Wilson. Ledoux is shooting 40 percent from distance and has knocked down 60 threes this season while leading the Cowboys with 15.1 points per game. Wilson is averaging a double-double for the season with 11.2 points per game and a conference-best 10.5 rebounds per game. Greenwood, meanwhile, leads McNeese with 73 assists for the year and a 12.5 points per game average.

Saturday's game will be the 21st meeting Cowboys and Huskies match-up. The Cowboys and Lions series dates back to 1967. McNeese leads the series 15-6. despite losing four of the last five match-ups.

Under Simmons, the Cowboys are 3-4 against the Huskies: 1-2 at home and 2-3 on the road. Simmons' biggest win came just last month when the Cowboys defeated the Huskies 86-81. His other wins came back-to-back during the 2013-14 season and with only a 2-pt margin of victory both times.

McNeese dropped the last home game against HBU, 81-79 in February of 2017. Kalob Ledoux scored a game high 22 points. All five starters are current Cowboys- Ledoux, Greenwood, Harvey Brown, and Ugochukwu.
