LAKE CHARLES—McNeese women's basketball returns home for three straight games to close out the regular season beginning with a 1 p.m. game against Houston Baptist in its alumni game.
With the regular season winding down, McNeese (11-15, 7-8 SLC) enters the game in eighth place, the final spot for the Southland Conference Tournament and are one game ahead of ninth place Southeastern Louisiana. The Cowgirls will conclude the regular season with a 6:30 p.m. game against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi next Wednesday before facing Lamar next Saturday on senior day.
The Cowgirls, losers of four of their last five including three straight losses following a 63-51 road loss at Nicholls on Wednesday, will look to pick up its second win over HBU this season. The Cowgirls came away with an 86-74 win in Houston on Jan. 20.
Sophomore Caitlin Davis and senior Dede Sheppard continue to lead the team in scoring with 12.2 and 10.3 ppg., respectively. Davis also leads the team with 5.8 assists, 1.7 steals and a 30.7 three-point field goal percent.
Mercedes Rogers leads the team with 7.2 rebounds while freshman Bre'Ashlee Jones is pulling down 7.1 per game.
Houston Baptist (8-17, 4-11 SLC), losers of five of their last seven have won two of their last three with its wins over Northwestern State and Sam Houston State in overtime. The Huskies are coming off a 90-55 road loss at Lamar on Wednesday.
The Huskies are led in scoring by Amanda Johnson's 15.1 ppg. and Veronika Kirienko leads the team with 5.5 rpg.
