LAKE CHALRES—McNeese women's basketball will travel to Nacogdoches, Texas on Wednesday for its final game of six consecutive road games for a 7 p.m. tilt against second place Stephen F. Austin. The game will be streamed on ESPN3 and can be heard on the McNeese Radio Network (Cajun Radio 1470/1290 AM).
McNeese (10-11, 6-4 SLC), who has had success on the road in league play this season, enters Wednesday's game with a 5-1 conference road record with its only loss coming at the hands of league leader Lamar. The Cowgirls have won four of their last five games including its last two at Sam Houston State and most recently a 60-44 win at Northwestern State last Saturday.
The Cowgirls continue to lead the conference in rebounding margin, outrebounding its opponents by 7.4 rebounds. McNeese also ranks third in the SLC in offensive rebounds, averaging 17.5 per game and second in defensive rebounds with 26.2 per game.
Sophomore Caitlin Davis and senior Dede Sheppard continue to lead the Cowgirls in scoring with 11.9 ppg. and 10.2 ppg., respectively. Davis also leads the squad with 5.5 assists and 1.5 steals.
Mercedes Rogers who moved into fifth place in McNeese career rebounds against Northwestern State lead a trio of players who are averaging six or more rebounds per game. Rogers is averaging 7.3 while freshman Bre'Ashlee Jones who is coming off a career high 14 against Northwestern State is averaging 6.8 boards per game. Senior Jasmyn Carswell is grabbing 6.1 per game and leads the Cowgirls with a 56.0 field goal percent.
Stephen F. Austin (17-4, 9-1 SLC) is coming off their first SLC loss of the season with a 79-65 road loss at Lamar last Saturday. The Ladyjacks will look to remain undefeated at home this season as they carry a perfect 11-0 home record into Wednesday's game. The Ladyjacks are 23-2 at home dating back to last season. The last home loss for SFA was and 80-73 set back against Abilene Christian on Feb. 16, 2017.
The Ladyjacks are the best free throw shooting team (78.8) and lead the conference in assists (15.2) in conference games only.
Stevi Parker is averaging a double double with 12.1 ppg. and 10.2 rpg. Chanell Hayes is averaging 11.6 ppg. and Taylor Jackson is averaging 10.9 ppg.
