LAKE CHARLES – McNeese second baseman
Joe Provenzano added to his record-breaking baseball career when on Thursday he was named to the 2018 Google Chrome Academic All-America Third Team and becoming the first Cowboy player in program history to repeat with the honors.
The award is selected by members of the Colleges of Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Provenzano, an outgoing senior from Downers Grove, Illinois, earned third team honors last season to become just the fourth baseball player in school history to garner the academic all-America award.
The second baseman graduated this past May with his bachelor's degree and with a double major in finance and accounting, compiling a 3.76 grade point average.
On the field, he led the team in batting with a .336 average along with a team-high 16 doubles.
He became the school's all-time hits leader, surpassing former teammate Andrew Guillotte late in the season and ended his career with 254 career base hits as well as tying a career mark with 222 games played.
