Cowgirls visit TCU Sunday afternoon

LAKE CHARLES – After coming out with a shutout win against Prairie View in Friday's season opener, the McNeese Cowgirl soccer team will continue on with its season opening road trip when it battles TCU on Sunday at 1.

The game, which will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest, will be the first-ever meeting between the two programs

TCU defeated Alabama 1-0 in its season opener on Friday night.

"We know the atmosphere will be great and we look forward to the opportunity to play a team of their caliber," said McNeese head coach Drew Fitzgerald. "It's a challenge our players are excited to take on and they've worked very hard last spring, over the summer and during preseason to get ready for these kinds of matches."

Last season, the Horned Frogs finished the year 12-7-3 overall and 6-2-1 in a competitive Big 12 conference and dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 match to 15-win Baylor in the Big 12 Tournament Championship game. That, however, was enough to earn them a spot in the NCAA Tournament where they fell 2-1 to Arizona in the first round.

"It is nice to be able to get a quality match like this in the DFW Metroplex, one of our recruiting bases. For several of our players this will be going home which is always fun. We know that TCU will present challenges both in terms of athleticism and style of play, but we also know that taking on these kind of quality opponents makes us better," said Fitzgerald.

Following Sunday's game, the Cowgirls will open up their home slate on Friday at 7 against Texas State then will host Arkansas next Sunday at 4 in the first-ever home match against an SEC opponent.
