Cowgirls Fall to TCU 1-0 in Physical Game

FORT WORTH – The McNeese Cowgirl soccer team wrapped up its two-game, season-opening road trip on Sunday after, falling to TCU by a 1-0 score with the lone goal coming from Yazmeen Ryan in the 61st minute of the game.

The Horned Frogs (2-0) was on the offensive for much of the first half but was kept out of the net thanks in large part to Cowgirl sophomore goalkeeper Emma Roccaforte.

TCU held a 7-3 advantage in shots and 6-1 in corner kicks in the first half.

"The team responded well to the challenge," said McNeese head coach Drew Fitzgerald. "In the first half, I thought we were well organized and really made things difficult for TCU.  They made some adjustments at half and I think in the end we just didn't have the legs to keep them off the board."

Much like in the first half, the Cowgirls showed very physical defensive play in the second 45 minutes and giving the team a chance for the victory against a team that participated in last year's NCAA Tournament.

One big reason for that was the play of Roccaforte who faced 21 shots on the day, nine of those on-goal, and making eight saves.

"This TCU team is a very good team and I'm incredibly impressed with the team effort and fight our players showed. I think this weekend was a great building block weekend for this group. I'm very proud of them," said Fitzgerald.

The Cowgirls ended the match with five shots, four of those on goal.

The Cowgirls (1-1) will look to bounce back this Friday in their home opener against Texas State at Cowgirl Field at 7 p.m.

McNeese will then host the Arkansas Razorbacks on Sunday at 4 in a game that will be broadcast live on Cox Sports TV and on ESPN+ outside of the CST viewing area.
