Cowgirls take on UL-Laffayette Sunday

LAKE CHARLES- The McNeese Cowgirls will look to make it four straight wins on Sunday when it hosts Louisiana-Lafayette at 1 at Cowgirl Field.

The Cowgirls (4-1) are a win away from matching their best start since 2013 after posting a 2-1 overtime win over Louisiana-Monroe on Friday night for their second straight overtime victory.

Louisiana-Lafayette (1-2-2) is coming off a 1-1 tie against Southeastern Louisiana on Friday.

"UL-Lafayette is going to be athletic and they vary their style a bit based on the opponent," said head coach Drew Fitzgerald. "It sounds like they've played in a couple different formations and are looking for that one best fit for them."

The Cowgirls and Cajuns have faced off in 14 of the last 15 years, 2013 being the only year they didn't play. In those 14 matches, the Cajuns lead the all-time series with a record of 8-3-3 and winning four of the last five.

"Regardless of formation, Coach Wieland's teams usually look to transition from defense to attack quickly and find their forwards as soon as possible," said Fitzgerald. "Add to that the fact we play them every year and it's a bit of a rivalry. You have the makings of a very fun match."

Admission is just $5 and fans can follow along online at the complex with live stats on McNeeseSports.com or follow @McNeeseSoccer on Twitter for live in-game updates.
