LAKE CHARLES—Coming off its first win of the season against Southern on Wednesday, McNeese volleyball will look to carry that momentum into its final regular season tournament this weekend at the Rice Adidas Invitational II.
McNeese (1-10) will open tournament action at 4 p.m. Friday against Austin Peay (8-1). Two matches are on tap for the Cowgirls on Saturday beginning with a 1:30 p.m. match against Ole Miss (9-2) and concluding with a 7 p.m. match against Rice (6-4).
A member of the Ohio Valley Conference, the Govs only loss came against Northern Kentucky in a five-setter last weekend at the Evansville Dunn Hospitality Tournament.
Ole Miss, the 2017 NIVC (National Invitational Volleyball) Champions lost its only two matches at Iowa State in the second match of the season and most recently dropped a five set match at Memphis Tuesday night.
Rice heads into the weekend on a two match-losing streak after falling to No. 15 Baylor last Saturday at the Baylor Classic and at Stephen F. Austin Tuesday night.
For the Cowgirls, junior
Keegan Nelms continues to be the team leader with 83 kills and is second in digs (70) behind Angele McGownd's team high 139.
Caitlin Sharrock, who is coming off a career 34 assists in the win over Southern, leads the Cowgirls with 171 assists for an average of 4.75 per set.
At the net,
Allison Lippert and
Paige Havel lead in blocks with 29 and 28, respectively. Havel is coming off a season tying five blocks against Southern.
Katelyn Elliott leads with a .237 hitting percent and is second with 69 kills.
