LAKE CHARLES- The McNeese Cowgirl soccer squad returns to the friendly confines of Cowgirl Field on Friday night when it hosts Northwestern State at 7 in Southland Conference action.
The Cowgirls (6-4, 0-1 SLC) have won all four home matches on the season, including a program milestone victory over the University of Arkansas. McNeese dropped three of its last four matches, all on the road, but is coming off a 5-0 shutout win over Jackson State to end the road trip.
NSU (6-3, 0-1) has won five of its last six games and is coming off a 5-0 win over LSU-Alexandria in its last outing. The Lady Demons dropped their conference opener to Stephen F. Austin by a 1-0 score. NSU has played its last five games at home and is 2-1 on the road on the season.
Northwestern State holds a slight 14-12-5 edge in the all-time series over McNeese 12-14-5 and only scoring one more goal than the Cowgirls. McNeese has won four of the last five meetings including two straight wins.
Friday's game will be McNeese's Lace Up 4 Pediatric Cancer game, as the Cowgirls will be accepting donations to help Go4theGoal raise money for cancer. They'll also be wearing gold shoe laces in support of the cause.
"This Friday we are taking on Northwestern State soccer on the field but we are partnering off the field to raise money to help those facing pediatric cancer," said McNeese head coach
Drew Fitzgerald. "Please consider donating to the cause and come see us compete on Friday at 7 p.m. at Cowgirl Field."
