Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Texas- The McNeese Cowgirl soccer squad won its third game in last four outings and fourth straight game without a loss after it defeated Sam Houston State 3-1 here Sunday afternoon to keep pace among the Southland Conference leaders.

This victory improved the Cowgirls to 2-1-1 in league play, 8-4-1 overall, while SHSU's fell to 1-8-3 overall and 0-3-2 in the conference.

The Cowgirls took control right off the bat with a goal in the third minute by
Havana Johnson to make it a 1-0 game on her fifth goal of the season.
Johnson had three shots in the first five minutes alone with all of them being on goal.

The Bearkats responded quickly with a goal by Taylor Pritchard in the 18
th minute to tie the game at 1-1 as the teams would go into the half knotted up.

McNeese took a 2-1 lead in the 67
th minute on a goal by
Anna Watson, her second of the year, and would end up being the game-winner.
Brooke Mallory was awarded an assist, her first on the season.

The Cowgirls extend their lead to 3-1 in the 74
th minute after
Morgan Middleton found the back of the net for her team-high sixth goal on the year.

McNeese outshot SHSU 24-11 in the game and had a 13-5 shots-on-goal advantage.

The Cowgirls will return home on Friday at 7 when they host Nicholls.
