Cowgirls Go for Five Straight Against UTRGV

LAKE CHARLES- The McNeese Cowgirls will look to extend its winning streak to five straight games when it visits UT-Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas this Friday at 7 in women's soccer action.

The game can be viewed live on the WAC Digital Network.

The Cowgirls (5-1-0) are coming off an undefeated four game home stand the past two weekends, beating Texas State, Arkansas, ULM and ULL.

"UT-Rio Grande Valley is a team we've never faced before so there's no history there for either side to draw on.? From what we've seen, they are an athletic, tough and well-organized team," said head coach Drew Fitzgerald. "They've played some good Southland teams in tough matches so we expect a battle."

UT-Rio Grande Valley (3-2-1), in their last two games, have beaten Miami 2-1 in overtime and tied Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 2-2 in double overtime.

This will be the first time McNeese has faced UT-Rio Grande Valley in program history.

"It's a long road week for us, and after being spoiled at home for the last two weekends, we are going to have to adjust to being on the bus," said Fitzgerald. "It's a great test for us before conference begins on the road the following weekend."

The Cowgirls next game will be in Houston on Sunday to face the University of Houston then will stay on the road the following weekend to open conference action on Sept. 14 at Southeastern Louisiana and the final non-conference game at Jackson State on Sept. 16 before returning home on Sept. 21 against Northwestern State.
