.—McNeese volleyball suffered two, straight set losses Friday in the opening round of the Washington State Cougar Challenge, falling to 23
rd ranked Washington State (25-17, 25-17, 25-15) and Stony Brook (26-24, 25-17, 25-21).
The Cowgirls will play Illinois State at 12 p.m. (CT) Saturday to end its season opening 10
th straight road match.
McNeese (0-9) didn't help its cause by committing a combined 26 service errors between both matches.
The Cowgirls out-blocked the much taller Cougars 6-4, but couldn't overcome the balanced attack by Washington State that ended the match with a .395 team hitting percent.
Keegan Nelms was the most consistent McNeese player Friday, tallying 18 kills, collecting nine in each match. She produced a .318 hitting percent along with four digs and two blocks against Washington State (5-0). Nelms was credited with eight digs, two assists, and one service ace against Stony Brook (4-6).
Katelyn Elliott also tallied nine kills against Stony Brook to tie Nelms with a team high.
Angela McGownd led the Cowgirls with 14 digs, five against Washington State and nine against Stony Brook while
Caitlin Sharrock dished out double figure assists in each match. Sharrock head 11 against Washington State and 13 against Stony Brook.
