Cowgirls Head to Houston to Face the Cougars

HOUSTON - The McNeese Cowgirls will stay on the road for a Sunday afternoon match against the University of Houston Cougars two days after seeing its four-game winning streak come to an end in a 2-1 overtime loss at UT Rio Grande Valley on Friday night.

Game time is set for 5 p.m.

This will be the seventh match-up between the Cowgirls and the Cougars.

Houston (3-4-0) leads the all-time record versus the Cowgirls with a record of 6-0.

"UH is a team that has had our number for the last few years, so we are going to their place looking to break that pattern," said head coach Drew Fitzgerald. "We know that athletically, they will pose a challenge for us, and their forwards, in particular Jazmin Grant, who has come back for the last four matches, is a handful.   They are a talented group that we expect to be hungry."

The Cowgirls entered the weekend matches ranked in the United Soccer Coaches poll for the second straight week, moving up from No. 9 at No. 7 in the Midwest Region.

McNeese is ranked No. 3 in the Southland Conference in shots, fourth in points, third in assists, tied for first in goals allowed, and first in goals against average in the conference.
