SAN ANTONIO – New McNeese basketball head coach
Heath Schroyer and the new look Cowboys will step foot in Southland Conference action for the first time on Wednesday when McNeese visits UIW.
Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at UIW's McDermott Center. The game will broadcast live on Cajun Radio 1290 AM and online at CajunRadio.com.
McNeese (4-9) is coming off a 91-73 win over Campbellsville-Harrodsburg on Sunday in a game that saw both Sha'Markus Kennedy and
Roydell Brown record double-doubles – Kennedy with 30 points and 12 rebounds while Brown added 24 points and 17 boards.
Kennedy is the first 30-point scorer for the Cowboys this season while Brown recorded his sixth double-double on the year to rank him first in the league and 19
th in the nation.
Offensively, McNeese is second in the conference in field goal shooting at 47.1 percent and is averaging 70.5 points per game.
Four Cowboy players are averaging double-digit scoring on the season, led by
James Harvey with 12.2 points per game.
Malik Hines follows with an 11.4 average, Kennedy at 11.2, and Brown with 10.6 points to go along with a league-best 9.8 rebounds per game.
Brown's rebounding average also ranks him 24
th in the country.
The Cardinals (5-8) have not played since Dec. 19 when they dropped an 81-71 decision to DePaul and have lost six of their last seven games.
UIW is scoring 64.8 points per game and has two players averaging double-figures on the season – sophomore forward Christian Peevy (14.0 ppg) and freshman guard Morgan Taylor (11.8).
Following Wednesday's game, McNeese will stay on the road for a Saturday afternoon visit to Northwestern State. After that, the Cowboys will return home on Jan. 9 against Abilene Christian.
