Box Score LAFAYETTE – The McNeese tennis squad picked up its first win of the season on Wednesday at UL-Lafayette 4-3. The match was postponed due to rain on Jan. 22nd.

At doubles No. 2, McNeese's Giovanna Fioretti and Carlotta Romito score an early doubles win for the Cowgirls with a 6-3 victory over Marina Garcia and Floriane Picaut.

At doubles No.3, ULL's Morgan Forshag and Ai Noa Fabre defeated Charlotte Ziegler and Sofia San Jose Moreno 6-3 to even the doubles point at 1-1.

Finishing last in doubles, ULL's Clara Mantaux and Dana Radovanovic defeated McNeese's Marija Mastilovic and Charoline Erlandsson in a very close match 7-6 (7-5) to secure the doubles point for ULL.

In singles action, Mastilovic and Hoda Habib would finish first at the No. 3 position. Mastilovic wasted no time in helping her team out, securing a straight set 6-4, 6-0 victory over Habib.

At singles No. 6, ULL's Fabre would take the lead back for the Cajuns with a 6-3, 6-1 straight set victory over Ziegler.

Trailing 2-1, Fioretti would be the second Cowgirl on the day to even things up with a straight set performance. The Cowgirl defeated Picaut at singles No.1 6-2, 6-4.

With the match tied up at two points apiece, ULL's Mantaux put the Cajuns in the lead once again with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 victory over Moreno to give the Cajuns a 3-2 lead.

With the match on the line Erlandsson defeated Radovanovic 6-3 in the first set to giver the Cowgirl an early lead for the match. In set to Radovanovic bounced back, storming to a 6-1 victory to force a third set. In the final set Erlandsson buckled down and blanked her ULL counterpart 6-0 to even the match up at three point each.

In the final match-up to finish, McNeese's Romito faced off against Garcia in a winner takes all contest. In the first set Garcia took down Romito 6-3. Romito would fire back in the second set and even the match up with a 6-4 victory. With the match on the line, the McNeese freshman held strong to defeat her Cajun opponent 6-4 to secure the match for the Cowgirls.

"Today's match showed the character and personality of our team," said McNeese head coach Giorgia Pozzan. Playing a match against a very good and competitive ULL team is hard enough on a regular day, let alone a week later starting 0-1 down. In our previous matches we came up just a bit short, but today it was a different story. Our team came out strong and confident. They competed hard and they came through with a huge comeback win. We will enjoy this until tonight, tomorrow we are getting ready for UTA."
