WBB: Cowgirls Fall 109-52 At Abilene Christian

ABILENE, Texas-  McNeese women's basketball couldn't match the shooting performance of Abilene Christian here Wednesday night that resulted in a 109-52 Southland Conference loss.
 
McNeese (2-13, 0-3 SLC) ended the game shooting 35.1 percent from the field and had two players score in double figures. Sophomore Bre'Ashlee Jones led McNeese with 16 points on 6 of 11 from the field and 4 of 7 from the free throw line. Freshman Callie Maddox pitched in with 14 points on 5 of 10 from the field and 2 of 2 from the free throw line. Junior Damilola Balogun led all players with nine rebounds.
 
Abilene Christian improved to 10-4 on the season and remained undefeated in league play at 3-0. The Wildcats' starting five all scored in double figures, led by Sara Williamson's game high 24 points. Dominique Golightly and Lexie Ducat both scored 18. Makayla Mabry pitched in with 12 and Breanna Wright added 11.
 
When the Wildcats weren't scoring in the paint, they made up for it from behind the arc. ACU shot a season best 60.8 percent from the field and tied their season high with 14 three-pointers. The Wildcats also scored 62 of their points in the paint.
 
Turnovers continued to be a problem for the Cowgirls here tonight as they gave up 39 points off 24 turnovers and were outrebounded 39-32.
 
The game was back and forth for the first five minutes of the game until a jumper by Lexie Ducat ignited a 13-0 ACU run for a 22-9 lead and then held a 33-15 lead after the first period.
 
ACU picked up where they left off in the first quarter off a trey by Wright and held a 57-25 lead at the half.
 
McNeese will return to action this Saturday with a 1 p.m. game at New Orleans.
