Keegan Nelms and
Alexis Lambert led McNeese volleyball with 15 and 10, kills respectively Tuesday night in its Battle of the Border match against Lamar despite falling 3-0 (21-25, 26-28, 21-25) in a tightly contested match where a point here and there could have changed the outcome.
McNeese (8-13, 1-8) hit .238 for the match on 44 kills and 14 hitting errors to go along with 52 digs. Lamar (8-11, 3-6 SLC) hit .248 with 46 kills, 15 hitting errors and 60 digs.
The match consisted of 39 ties and 19 leads changes with at least 10 ties in each of the three sets.
The Cowgirls let the second set slip away when they were up 26-25 following a kill by Nelms but Lamar would score three straight points to steal the set by a 28-26 score.
The final set went back and forth and both teams put together scoring runs with each team trading the lead several times. With the set tied at 21 all following a Lambert kill, Lamar ended the match by scoring the final four points on Cowgirls ball handling error followed by three straight kills to take the set and the match.
McNeese will travel to Sam Houston State this Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. match before returning home for its final four home matches beginning with a 6:30 p.m. match next Thursday against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
