WBB: Cowgirls Host League Leading Lamar On Saturday

LAKE CHARLES- McNeese women's basketball will attempt to do something no other Southland Conference team has been able to do against Lamar so far this season when the Cowgirls host the league leading Lady Cardinals this Saturday, Feb. 2 at 1 p.m. at the H&HP Complex.
 
McNeese (5-13, 3-4 SLC) will look to hand Lamar its first conference loss of the season as the Cardinals come to Lake Charles having won 22 consecutive conference games dating back to last season. Lamar (15-4) is one of two undefeated teams in league this season with an 8-0 record. Stephen F. Austin, who is also undefeated in league play, enters its Saturday game at Sam Houston State with a 7-0 league record.
 
Not only are the Cardinals atop the league standings but they also lead the nation in steals with 300 and has the nations steal leader in Chastadie Barrs who is averaging 6.1 steals per game. The 2019 Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List selection for the top guards in the nation, Barrs also leads the team with 7.1 rpg. and is averaging 15.4 ppg. The Lady Cardinals come into the game averaging 79.6 ppg., are led in scoring by Moe Kinard's 19.1 ppg. Miya Crump is chipping in with 15.5 ppg.
 
The game marks the third straight home contest of its six-game home stand for the Cowgirls and they enter the game having won its last three games following an 81-71 in over Houston Baptist last Saturday.
 
The Cowgirls enter the contest averaging 62.7 ppg. and are led by redshirt freshman Callie Maddox's 14.1 ppg. Junior Regan Bolton is also averaging in double digits with 11.2 ppg. and leads the SLC with 2.9 three-pointers made per game.
 
McNeese is averaging 43.9 rebounds per game and are led in this category by junior Damilola Balogun who is grabbing 7.7 rpg. Balogun is coming off her third double double (12 pts., 13 reb.) of the season against HBU.
 
Also, freshmen Divine Tanks and Maia Robinson are coming off the bench to held in the rebound department. Tanks is averaging 6.9 rpg. and Robinson is averaging 5.6 rpg.
 
Sophomore Bre'Ashlee Jones has also been a huge factor in the Cowgirls' winning streak on both ends of the floor. Jones is third on the team in scoring (9.9 ppg.) along with 5.4 rpg.
