Box Score SAN ANTONIO – The McNeese women's tennis team dominated the UTSA Roadrunners 6-1 on Friday.
McNeese (4-4) has now won three in a row by a combined score of 20-1, and snapped a UTSA (4-5) two-game winning streak.
In doubles action, McNeese's
Carlotta Romito and
Charoline Erlandsson defeated UTSA's Kylee Kato and Jasmin Starr 6-4 to give the Cowgirls an early lead for the double's point.
At doubles No. 3, the Cowgirl duo of
Marija Mastilovic and
Stella Carra fell to the Roadrunner duo of Charleen Tiwari and Sophie Omoworare 3-6 to tie things up at one apiece for the double's point.
Finishing last in doubles action, McNeese's
Giovanna Fioretti and
Dalia Ahmed came out on top against Mariah Plauth and Laura Cabrera 6-4 to secure the doubles point for the Cowgirls.
In singles action, Erlandsson would be the first Cowgirl to finish. The senior would take down Plauth at singles No. 2 with a 6-2, 6-2 sweep.
With a 2-0 McNeese lead, freshman Romito would take care of her UTSA counterpart Catalina Cabrique in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.
At singles No. 3, McNeese's Mastilovic would go on to sweep Cabrera 6-0, 6-2 to secure the victory for the Cowgirls.
At singles No. 6, freshman Ahmed would drop the first set 6-7 to Tiwari. In the second set, Ahmed would jump out to a 4-1 lead before her opponent would retire the match, giving Ahmed the victory.
Fioretti would secure a victory for McNeese at singles No. 1 with a 7-5, 6-3 sweep over UTSA's Starr.
Finishing last on the day, Moreno would drop her first set at the No. 4 line to Kato 4-6. In their second set, Moreno would fire back with a dominating 6-1 performance. In the final set of the match, Moreno would fall to Kato 3-6, giving the Roadrunners their only point of the day.
The Cowgirls will play the second half of their road trip tomorrow as they take on Texas State at noon in San Marcos.
