WTEN: Cowgirls Sweep Singles and Take Down Southeastern

Box Score HAMMOND – The McNeese women's tennis team ended its two-game conference losing streak on Saturday with a 6-1 victory over Southeastern.

McNeese (7-6, 2-2 SLC) would drop the doubles point to begin the match before sweeping Southeastern (4-7, 1-2 SLC) in singles play.

At doubles No. 3, Cowgirls Marija Mastilovic and Stella Carra would pick up McNeese's lone doubles victory with a 6-2 win over Flory Bierma and Katya Cornejo.

At doubles No. 2, McNeese's Giovanna Fioretti and Dalia Ahmed would fall to the Southeastern duo of Ceci Mercier and Vicky Scholz.

Finishing last, at doubles No. 1, Southeastern's Putri Insani and Ximena Yanez would pick up the doubles point for SLU with a 6-3 victory over Charoline Erlandsson and Sofia San Jose Moreno.

The Cowgirls would begin singles action by sweeping their opponents on four courts.

At singles No. 3, Mastilovic aced Mercer 6-0 in their first set before securing the point for McNeese with a 6-4 second set victory to even things up at one point apiece.

Fioretti would finish next for the Cowgirls with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over SLU's Scholz.

At singles No. 5, McNeese's Carlotta Romito would add to the Cowgirls lead with a 6-0, 6-3 victory over SLU's Bernadette Dornieden.

At singles No 4, Moreno would secure the victory for McNeese with a 6-1, 6-3 sweep of Yanez.

With the match secured, the Cowgirls were not done.

At single's No. 6, Ahmed would drop her first set to Bierma 2-6 before taking the final two sets 6-1, 7-5 to pick up McNeese's fifth point.

Closing out the day, Erlandsson would take set one from Insani 6-2 before Insani would fire back and take set number two by a score of 6-0. In the final set of the match, Erlandsson would secure the Cowgirls final point of the day with a 6-3 victory over Insani.

The Cowgirls will have a week off before traveling to Northwestern St. on March 29 to continue conference play.
