Box Score NATCHITOCHES - The McNeese women's tennis team fell behind early on Friday in a 4-3 loss to league leading Northwestern St.

The start of the match was delayed two hours due to weather and then delayed another 30-minutes due to lightning during doubles action.

The Cowgirls (7-7, 2-3 SLC) lost the doubles point to give the Lady Demons (14-3, 6-0 SLC) an early lead that they would not relinquish.

At doubles No. 2, NSU's Rhea Verma and Patrycja Polanska would take the early doubles lead with a 6-1 win over McNeese's Marija Mastilovic and Stella Carra.

McNeese's Giovanna Fioretti and Dalia Ahmed would tie things up with a 6-2 victory over Judit Castillo and Emilija Dancetovic.

With the doubles point on the line, Cowgirls Charoline Erlandsson and Sofia San Jose Moreno would come up short in a 6-4 loss to Polina Mutel and Ela Iwaniuk.

Starting out singles action, Erlandsson would remain undefeated on the season with a 6-1, 6-1 sweep of Skyba at singles No. 2 to tie the match up at one point apiece.

At singles No. 3, Mastilovic would fall to Verma in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

McNeese freshman Carlotta Romito would finish next for the Cowgirls and drop her match 6-2, 6-3 to NSU's Iwaniuk.

At singles No. 4, Polanska would secure the match for the Lady demons with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Moreno.

At singles No. 1, Fioretti would secure the Cowgirls second point of the day with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over the 2018 Southland Conference Player of the Year, Mutel.

Finishing last on the day, Ahmed would secure McNeese's final point with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over NSU's Castillo.

The Cowgirls will finish up their road stand on Sunday when they face off against Central Arkansas at 11 a.m.
