LAKE CHARLES – Two games remain in the regular basketball season for the McNeese Cowboys, and with the Pokes trailing by two games for the final spot in the postseason Southland Conference Tournament, both are a must-win, beginning Wednesday night at 6:30 when they host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at the H&HP Complex in the final home game of the season.
Prior to the game, McNeese will recognize its four seniors –
Jarren Greenwood,
James Harvey, AJ Brown and
Trey Touchet.
The Cowboys will enter the game with a 9-20 overall record and 5-11 in league play while Corpus Christi will carry a 12-17 record on the season and 7-9 in conference play, two games ahead of the Cowboys in the standings.
Five teams have locked up a spot in the eight-team tournament with seven others vying for the final three spots. AMCC, Stephen F. Austin and HBU are all tied at 7-9 for the 6-7-8 spot but Central Arkansas and Northwestern State are just a game behind with 6-10 records followed by McNeese and Nicholls at 5-11.
This will be the first meeting between the Cowboys and Islanders on the season. Corpus has won eight straight games in the series with the last Cowboys' win coming on Jan. 30, 2013.
McNeese will close out the regular season on Saturday at Lamar beginning at 4:30.
2018-19 McNEESE SENIORS:
Trey Touchet – Transferred as a graduate from UTEP and is completing his first and only season with the Cowboys. He has emerged as one of the team's assist leaders with 81 on the season. He's scored in double-digits five times and with 11 assists on the year, is the only player on the team to record 10 or more in a game. He's appeared in 27 games and has made 19 starts.
AJ Brown – A four-year player for the Cowboys who has appeared in 94 career games, making four starts. During his career, he's scored 190 points, pulled down 127 rebounds and had 21 blocks. This season, he's played in 21 games and has scored 24 points with 23 rebounds and two blocked shots.
Jarren Greenwood – Another four-year player for the Cowboys who has started in 89 of his 112 games appeared. He's scored 1,125 points in his career, ranking him 28
th on the school's all-time list. He's also dished out 281 career assists, ranking him 13
th on the school's career list. This year, he's scored double figures eight times and recorded his first-career double-double.
James Harvey – A four-year starter for the Cowboys who will go down as one of the greatest three-point shooters in school history, ranking fourth on the school's all-time list with 258 threes made. In addition, he's scored 1,217 career points to rank him 22
nd all-time in the McNeese record book. He leads the team this year with 19 double-digit scoring games and has 63 in his career. He's appeared in 115 games in his career, making 84 starts.
