Box Score CORPUS CHRISTI – The McNeese women's tennis team had its five match winning streak snapped on Friday as it dropped its first conference match of the season to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 5-2.

The Cowgirls (6-5, 1-1 SLC) fell behind early to the Islanders (7-3, 1-1 SLC) in doubles play.

At doubles No. 1, McNeese's Charoline Erlandsson and Carlotta Romito would fall to the TAMUCC duo of Carolina Bulatovic and Mariya Shumeika 3-6 to begin doubles play.

Next to finish, Cowgirls Marija Mastilovic and Stella Carra would keep the Cowgirls in it with a 6-2 victory over Camille Townsend and Maria Maldonado.

At doubles No. 2, the Islander duo of Kei Kato and My Kageyama would secure the doubles point for their team with a 7-6 (7-4) victory over Giovanna Fioretti and Dalia Ahmed.

In singles action TAMUCC would jump to quick 3-0 lead.

At singles No. 5, McNeese's Sofia San Jose Moreno would fall in straight sets to Kageyama 6-1, 6-3.

Next to finish, at singles No. 2, Fioretti would drop her match to Kato 6-4, 6-2.

At singles No. 1, Erlandsson would pick up the Cowgirls first point of the day with a 7-6, 5-2 sweep of Bulatovic.

Shumeika would secure the match for the Islanders at singles No. 4 with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Romito.

At singles No. 6, Ahmed would drop her first set to TAMUCC's Vanessa Reinicke 5-7. Ahmed would storm back and take the next two sets 6-1, 6-1 to secure the Cowgirls second point of the day.

Finishing last on the day, Mastilovic would drop the first set to Townsend 6-2 before picking up the second set 6-3. In the final set Townsend would secure the match 6-4 to finish the day for both teams.

The Cowgirls will make a stop in Beaumont on Sunday as they take on Lamar at 2 p.m.
