Box Score LAKE CHARLES – After struggling in doubles competition for several matches, the McNeese women's tennis team secured the doubles point for the second match in row on its way to a 6-1 rout of Stephen F. Austin.

The Cowgirls (10-8, 5-4 SLC) have secured their third consecutive victory over Southland Conference opponents after beginning their conference schedule 2-4. The Cowgirls got ahead early on SFA (7-12, 3-7 SLC) and never let up, securing all five of their singles victories in straight sets.

At doubles No. 1, McNeese's Charoline Erlandsson and Marija Mastilovic made quick work of Gabi Guilarte and Kaja Ljubic to secure a 6-1 victory.

Cowgirls Giovanna Fioretti and Carlotta Romito would drop their match to Darinka Tiboldi and Armelle Cerdan 3-6, evening the doubles point up at one point apiece.

At doubles No. 3, McNeese's Dalia Ahmed and Sofia San Jose Moreno would secure the doubles point for the Cowgirls in a hard fought 7-6 victory over SFA's Kyndall Misak and Nida Kamal.

In singles action, Giovanna Fioretti would be the only Cowgirl to fall on the day in a 6-1, 4-6, 8-10 three-set loss to Guilarte.

At singles No. 2, Erlandsson would go on to defeat SFA's Tiboldi in straight sets 6-1, 6-4.

At singles No. 3, Mastilovic would make easy work of Cerdan, securing a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

Moreno would recover from a four-match losing streak with an impressive 6-1, 6-3 victory over Ljubic.

McNeese freshman Ahmed would go on to defeat Kamal in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

At singles No. 6, Romito would pick up her third consecutive singles victory with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Misak.

"I am very proud of our effort today," said McNeese head coach Giorgia Pozzan. "Our team played a complete match from start to finish; I have to give credit to SFA because they challenged us until the end. But today we overcame everything they threw at us."

The Cowgirls will compete in their final home match of the season on Sunday when they host Sam Houston St. on Senior Day at 1 p.m.
