Box Score TYLER, Texas – The McNeese women's tennis team battled fiercely before falling to league leading Abilene Christian 4-3 on Saturday.
The Cowgirls (11-9, 6-5 SLC) dropped the doubles point early to ACU (14-9, 10-1 SLC).
At doubles No. 2, the ACU duo of Autumn Bellow and Ileana Mocciola took the early lead for the doubles point with a 6-2 win over McNeese's
Giovanna Fioretti and
Carlotta Romito.
At flight No. 1, McNeese's
Charoline Erlandsson and
Marija Mastilovic tied things up with a 6-4 victory over Nini Memishishi and Sarah Adams.
At doubles No. 3, ACU's Allison Stewart and Jordan Henry would secure the doubles point for the Wildcats with a 7-6 (7-5) victory over
Dalia Ahmed and
Sofia San Jose Moreno.
In singles action, Bellow would extend the lead for the Wildcats at flight No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Mastilovic.
McNeese freshman Ahmed would get the Cowgirls on the board at singles No. 4 when she defeated Henry in straight sets 7-5, 6-0.
At singles No. 1, Erlandsson would improve on her dominant season and tie things up at two points apiece with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Memishishi.
Next to finish, ACU's Mocciola would retake the lead for the Wildcats with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Romito.
With McNeese trailing 3-2 Fioretti would dominate flight No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-4 straight set victory over Adams.
With the match tied up at three, ACU's Stewart would secure the match for the Wildcats with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Moreno to end the day.
The Cowgirls will now begin preparing for the Southland Conference Tournament which begins on April 26. McNeese will enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed and will face off against Central Arkansas on Thursday at 10 a.m.
