Box Score LAKE CHARLES - The McNeese women's tennis team took four out of six singles courts on Friday in a 4-3 Southland Conference victory over Nicholls.

The Cowgirls (8-8, 3-4 SLC) continued to struggle in doubles competition and Nicholls (3-12, 1-6 SLC) took advantage early.

At doubles No. 2, Giovanna Fioretti and Carlotta Romito would find themselves in an early hole trailing 1-5 to Nicholls Daphne Haverkamp and Mariia Kozachok. The Cowgirl duo would battle back and take the doubles match 7-6 to give the Cowgirls an early lead for the doubles point.

At doubles No. 1, McNeese's Charoline Erlandsson and Marija Mastilovic would battle back from a 1-4 deficit but fall just short to Stephani Barnett and Lingfend Gu 6-4.

Nicholl's Marina Vigil and Antonia Roessli would secure the doubles point for the Colonels with a 6-4 victory over Dalia Ahmed and Sofia San Jose Moreno.

The Cowgirls would bounce back in singles action, taking the first two singles points.

At singles No. 3, McNeese's Mastilovic would sweep Vigil 6-2, 6-0 to tie the match up at one point apiece.

Next to finish, Ahmed would give the Cowgirls the lead with a 6-3, 6-0 sweep of Kozachok.

The Colonels would fire back and tie things up again when Roessli defeated Moreno in straight sets 6-1, 6-0.

With the match tied up at two, Erlandsson would bounce back after dropping her first match of the year last week with a 6-1, 6-4 straight set victory over Gu.

At singles No. 5, McNeese's Romito would secure the team victory for the Cowgirls with a 6-1, 6-0 sweep of Haverkamp.

Finishing last on the day, Fioretti would battle fiercely but ultimately fall to Barnett 6-2, 7-6.

The victory over Nicholls snapped a two-game losing streak for the Cowgirls.

"I think we did a good job getting back from those matches that we lost," said McNeese head coach Giorgia Pozzan.  "We had a good week of practice and worked on some things that didn't work last weekend. Today the girls were very sharp and they had a lot of energy and they had swag so they were able to win this match for us."

The Cowgirls will return to the courts on Sunday when they host New Orleans in a critical Southland Conference match-up at 1 p.m.
