SB: Cowgirls Travel To No. 7/5 LSU Tuesday

LAKE CHARLES—McNeese softball will travel to Baton Rouge Tuesday to face No. 7/5 LSU at Tiger Park. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. The game will be streamed on the SECN+ and can be heard on the KEZM Radio (1310 AM).
 
McNeese (20-21) will face its sixth ranked opponent this season and is coming off a Southland Conference series sweep at Abilene Christian last weekend.
 
Senior Justyce McClain continues to lead the Cowgirls with a .382 batting average, 50 hits, 27 runs and is second on the team with 19 stolen bases.
 
Junior Cori McCrary leads McNeese with 21 RBI, 25 stolen bases and is second on the team with a .349 batting average, 21 runs, 44 hits and eight doubles.
 
In the circle, the Cowgirls continue to utilize five pitchers and are led by freshman Saleen Flores (4-3) who has a staff low 1.39 ERA and a team high 46 strikeouts. Amber Coons (3-3) has a 1.87 ERA, Caroline Settle (5-7) has a 3.33 ERA, Alexsandra Flores (8-8) has a 3.35 ERA, and Ashely Koncir (0-0) has a 5.07 ERA. As a staff, the Cowgirls carry a 2.63 ERA, fourth best in the conference.
 
LSU (33-8) is coming off a SEC series win over Mississippi State and are atop the SEC standings following that series.
 
Amanda Sanchez leads the Tigers at the plate with a .464 batting average, 15 doubles and 47 RBI.
 
In the circle, freshman Shelby Wickersham (9-1) leads the staff with a 1.94 ERA. Maribeth Gorsuch (9-0) has a 2.17 ERA and Shelbi Sunseri (8-5) has a 2.22 ERA and leads the staff with 48 strikeouts.
 
Following Tuesday's game, McNeese will return home this weekend to start a seven game homestand with a conference series against Central Arkansas.
