Michael Johnson named Asst. AD for Event Management & Facilities

LAKE CHARLES – McNeese Director of Athletics Bruce Hemphill has announced the addition of Michael Johnson as the Assistant Athletic Director for Event Management and Facilities.
 
Johnson replaces Lakeyn Bolfing who accepted a similar position at the University of Louisiana-Monroe.
 
A native of Flint, Michigan, Johnson comes to McNeese from the University of Miami where he was the Coordinator of Facilities and Event Operations. During his time with the Hurricanes, he coordinated all athletic event functions and is credited with implementing the Facility Management Express (FMX) system for facilities while assisting with several capital projects such as replacement of Greentree practice fields, the tennis video board replacement, Knight Gym floor replacement, and Phase 2 of the Soffer Indoor Practice Facility.
 
He directly assisted with the coordination of multiple outside vendors, staff, and partners.
 
Prior to his stint at Miami, Johnson spent a year at Middle Tennessee as the Executive Coordinator of Athletic Operations.
 
While at MTSU, he assisted with the negotiations for the department's licensing rights, worked on a contract extension with apparel provider Nike, coordinated several million dollars in capital improvement projects, as numerous other projects as well as assisting the Director of Athletics and Associate AD with day-to-day operations for MTSU's 17 varsity programs.
 
From 2014-17, he was a graduate assistant at Tennessee State where he gained valuable experience in the Athletics Facilities and Operations office. He also worked for the United State Department of Defense from 2014-16 as an Executive Student-Athlete Training and Academic Recruitment Human Resource Specialist.
 
A track and field student-athlete at Tennessee State where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pre-Law in 2014 and a Masters of Law in Criminal Justice in 2016, Johnson competed in the 200 and 400 meter dashes as well as the 4x100 and 4x400 relay events.
 
He was named Mr. Tennessee State University (Student Government President) and played a major role of the student leadership team.
 
Johnson is a member of the Collegiate Event and Facility Management Association, Minority Opportunities Athletic Association, and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. In addition to being involved in the community, he founded his own non-profit organization where he promotes and ensures civility, fairness, and equal access to opportunities for students and athletes by connecting them with successful professionals; pioneering successful diversity and inclusion efforts in every career field.
 
Johnson is working towards his Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership and Sports Management from St. Thomas University.
