LAKE CHARLES- The McNeese Soccer team (1-0-0) will play its first away game on Friday night when it will take on the reigning SEC champions, LSU Tigers (1-1-0) at 7 p.m. at the LSU Soccer Stadium.
The game will broadcast live on ESPN+. Cowgirl fans can also follow the action via live stats at McNeeseSports.com or on Twitter at @McNeeseSoccer.
This will be the ninth time the two squads have faced off with LSU leading the series 8-1. McNeese's lone win came in 1999 when the Cowgirls posted a 2-1 victory in Baton Rouge. The most recent contest came in September of 2011 when the Pokes fell 1-0.
The Tigers are coming off their first win of the season after defeating Navy 1-0 in double overtime this past Sunday. The golden goal was scored in the first minute of the second overtime by Meghan Johnson. LSU opened the regular season with a 2-1 loss at Villanova.
Friday's game will be the home opener for the Tigers.
The Cowgirls' last time on the pitch was their season opener last Friday night when they defeated Southern 4-1. Their game against Tulsa was canceled due to the weather.
In that win, Anna Watson scored two goals while both Mariah Ruelas and Keely Morrow scored a goal and collected an assist.
After Friday's game, the Cowgirls will return home for a Sunday match against Prairie View at 1 p.m.
QUOTING HEAD COACH DREW FITZGERALD:
"We are excited to travel across the state to play a highly regarded program like LSU. We expect them to be fast and direct. We'll look to establish our own pace and try to control the ball. It's a tall task to go into Baton Rouge and steal one, but that is our goal."
